Vedik Mind

Vedic Wisdom for Inner Peace

How Yoga Takes You Beyond the Mind

The idea of the Pancha Koshas comes from the Taittiriya Upanishad.

It says something simple.

You are not just the body.
You are not just the mind.

You are made of layers.

The physical body.
The energy that runs it.
The thoughts and emotions you experience.
The intellect that understands and decides.
And a deeper layer of quiet peace.

Most of us live only in the outer layers—body and mind.
So when something goes wrong there, we feel completely disturbed.

But these layers are not who you are.
They are instruments.

Ashtanga Yoga

Understanding the layers is useful.

But how do you actually work through them?

This is where the system of Patanjali becomes practical.

His Ashtanga Yoga gives a step-by-step way to move inward.

It starts with the body.

Through Asana, you make the body steady and stable.

Then through Pranayama, you regulate the breath and energy.

Next comes the mind.

Through Pratyahara and Dharana, you reduce distraction and build focus.

Then meditation deepens this clarity.

And finally, in stillness, you touch a layer of peace that is not dependent on anything outside.

Why This Matters

Most people try to fix everything at the level of thoughts.

But the system is layered.

Sometimes the issue is physical.
Sometimes it is energy.
Sometimes it is mental overload.

When you understand this, you stop reacting blindly.

You start working intelligently.

The Core Insight

The Koshas show you the structure.

Ashtanga Yoga shows you the path.

But both point to the same truth:

You are not the body.
You are not the mind.
You are the one aware of all of it.

And the more the layers settle,
the more that becomes clear.
